E7POTA Starting Activations

Radio communication has always been an important part of human history. In recent years, amateur radio has become a very popular hobby worldwide, with a growing number of enthusiasts in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well.

Amateur radio can be described as a hobby pursued by individuals or groups who have passed amateur radio exams and possess technical knowledge about creating and repairing radio communication equipment.

One of the most exciting initiatives in the world of amateur radio is the non-profit organization from the USA, "Parks on the Air" (POTA), which is becoming increasingly popular among radio amateurs. The POTA concept involves individuals or groups traveling to specific parks and locations approved through the "POTA Map Manager" system and operating radio equipment from these areas.

For a long time, there was no one in Bosnia and Herzegovina to explore and register locations within the POTA system. However, according to Nikola Mijić (E77AX), there was a strong desire to start amateur radio operations in nature.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has immense potential for such activities, and their implementation can also contribute to the development of tourism, especially in locations that have been neglected for years.

The goals set for 2024 have almost been fully achieved, but the work will continue into 2025. A key development is obtaining permission from the Regulatory Agency for Communications (RAK) to use the special call sign "E7POTA". This call sign will allow a group of radio amateurs to operate from nature at selected locations throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. The special call sign will be active from February 25 to December 31, 2025.

Project Goals

The main goal of this initiative is to promote tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlight the country's natural beauty, encourage spending time outdoors, and strengthen the sense of community among radio amateurs.

Additionally, the project aims to attract young people to this hobby, showing them how building antennas and developing technical skills can enhance abilities useful in everyday life.
