A group of passionate radio amateurs from Bosnia and Herzegovina recently embarked on an exciting journey to explore and activate several POTA (Parks on the Air) locations in Austria. Their mission was not only to engage in their beloved hobby but also to strengthen international amateur radio bonds and promote the importance of preserving natural and cultural heritage.
POTA is a popular program among radio amateurs worldwide, encouraging operators to set up portable stations in national and regional parks, nature reserves, and other protected areas. The goal is to make radio contacts ("activations") while raising awareness about the conservation of these sites.
The Bosnian E7POTA team, equipped with portable transceivers, antennas, and other essential gear, visited several picturesque Austrian parks, including Trumer Seen Nature Reserve AT-0076 and Buchberg Nature Reserve AT-0013. Each location offered unique challenges — from setting up antennas in remote mountain areas to battling changing weather conditions — but the team’s enthusiasm and dedication never wavered.

During their activations, they successfully established numerous radio contacts with operators across Europe and beyond, exchanging call signs and signal reports. These contacts were logged and submitted to the POTA database, contributing to the global network of park activations.
Apart from the technical aspects, the trip fostered a spirit of camaraderie and collaboration. The Bosnian amateurs connected with their Austrian counterparts, sharing experiences, tips, and stories about their journeys through the world of radio communication. It was a perfect blend of technology, nature, and friendship.
Looking ahead, the Bosnia & Herzegovina team plans to continue their POTA adventures, with future activations already being discussed — both in Bosnia and across other European countries. Their efforts not only highlight the vibrant amateur radio community but also serve as a reminder of how technology can bring people together while promoting environmental awareness.
Through initiatives like these, E7 radio amateurs are not just exploring new frequencies — they’re building bridges between cultures and celebrating the beauty of our planet, one park at a time. 💖
